Sheryl Saly Touré is a textile artist from the Bronx, NY. Her work examines the semiotics of textiles in the Black diaspora by documenting cycles of resilience, belonging, and power. She works with natural dyes, especially indigo, to create textiles that reveal suppressed histories of exploitation and colonization. By retracing the textile technology and culture of the past, her pieces tell the story of a Black woman remembering the world of her ancestors. Touré's work invites the audience to experience textiles as archives of life and shared lineage across the diaspora.
